Managing Information Overload
Tip of the Week: Managing Information Overload
Processing large amounts of information can be overwhelming for autistic and ADHD girls. Whether it’s schoolwork, social conversations, or daily tasks, too much input at once can lead to stress, mental fatigue, and shutdowns. Here are three strategies to help manage information overload:
1. Break It Down: Instead of tackling everything at once, focus on one piece of information at a time. Using lists, mind maps, or colour-coded notes can make it easier to absorb and organise what’s important.
2. Use Filters: Not all information needs immediate attention. Prioritising tasks, muting unnecessary notifications, or setting time limits for social media or reading can help reduce overwhelm.
3. Schedule Processing Time: Giving yourself time to absorb and reflect on information before responding or making decisions can prevent burnout. Short breaks between tasks, quiet time after social interactions, or journaling thoughts can make a big difference.
Remember: It’s okay to step back and process things at your own pace. Your brain works differently, and creating systems that support you will help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
